I have known David for 15 years now. David and I were hired at the same time to open a cafe in the restaurant business. The team consisted of a GM and four managers but I gravitated towards David. Watching him work and deal with guests was an invaluable experience! He helped the new cafe build a reputation for good customer service and quality food. His analytical skills helped reduce food cost and identify opportunities where the cafe could cut costs while not compromising quality or the brand. Eventually he was promoted to GM of the cafe, a well-deserved move. As a GM, David continued to persevere in a competitive market and was part of "Franchise of the Year" for the cafe. During his time there, he also adapted to new concepts and expectations that were introduced. As a leader, he truly was the "quarterback" calling the plays while keeping his team motivated and engaged. He wasn't afraid to have those tough conversations and would always be honest with me. Integrity is more important to him than popularity, and that is something I continue to admire about him. I am so thankful I was taught this from working both with him and for him.
